Study On Yu Dafu’s Fiction Theory And Criticism Research

This thesis studies on theory and criticism of Yu Dafu’s fictions. Yu Dafu is one ofthe most important authors in Chinese modern literary as well as an outspoken criticon the study of fiction theory. Based on Yu Dafu’s fiction theory monographs “FictionTheory”,“History on Fiction” and other related theses study on literature and art, thisthesis discusses and analyzes Yu Dafu’s critical systems of fiction theory on theaspects of “modernity” conception,“being-true-and-perfect” axiology,“autobiography” creation, literary styles and critical theory.The preface gives an account of the selection reasons, research purposes andsignificance of this thesis.The first chapter is an overview about Yu Dafu’s fiction theory and criticism. Firstly,the thesis, based on the time, introduces historical changes of Yu Dafu’s fiction theoryand criticism from May Fourth Period to Sino-Japanese War Period. Secondly, thethesis introduces the major components of Yu Dafu’s fiction theory. The body of thisthesis can be divided into two main parts, that is, the study on Yu Dafu’s fiction theoryand the study on criticism theory. the former part is to be discussed in four chapters.The second chapter is about fiction conception. From the perspective of introducingthe conception histories both in China and in western countries, the thesis discussesYu Dafu’s proposition of “the internationalization of Chinese fictions”.The third chapter is about fiction ontology. From the perspective of literary andart’s function, the thesis makes a comment on Yu Dafu’s “being-true-and-perfect”axiology, focusing on “emotional truth” and “style’s beauty” of the fiction.The fourth chapter is about fiction creation. Based on the introduction of creationauthors’“self-expression”, the thesis mainly sets forth Yu Dafu’s “autobiography”theory.The fifth chapter is about fiction styles. Proceed from the fiction genres andbackgrounds, the thesis talks over Yu Dafu’s historical fiction theory and biographicliterature theory.The sixth chapter is about fiction criticism. From the perspectives of critical theses and critics, the thesis inspects Yu Dafu’s critical theories on “genius”,“moods”,“concern on self-personality” and “critics’ four virtues”.
