As a special applied writing style, Tiezici were mainly written by Hanlin academicians for the imperial palace on the days of the Beginning of Spring, the Dragon Boat Festival in Song Dynasty. They usually had fixed forms, specific objects, unique content and stable art styles. There development had a close connection with the rise and fall of the imperial empire.The thesis contains five chapters. The first chapter mainly attempts to explore the origins and sources of Tiezici from the aspects of social, cultural and historical backgrounds. Besides it interprets the connotations of them both through the ancient explanations and definitions of Tiezici and the modern ones.The second chapter mainly explains Tiezici from their forms and objects. Tiezici mainly contained those written on the Beginning of Spring and those on the Dragon Boat Festival. They appeared generally in the form of five-word or seven-word poems, with the emperor, the queen, some high-ranked imperial concubines or the crown prince as their main objects. The number of Tiezici varied because of different objects. The writers of them were mainly Hanlin academicians, while there were some other authors instead.The third chapter detailed analyzes the content of Tiezici in Song Dynasty. Tiezici were written for royal courts to celebrate the festivals, so often the overall tone of them had been to flatter somebody or praise something. But with Ouyang Xiu, Sima Guang and Su Shi as the representative of the academicians integrated suggestions and expostulations with their Tiezici, which opened up a new realm of Tiezici. Tiezici also expressed people’s prayer for blessings and their wish to avoid disasters, which were full of rich festival color and showed the colorful festival customs.The forth chapter mainly analyzes the art style of Tiezici in Song Dynasty. Because of their special content and objects, they needed corresponding wit and style of writing. Tiezici not only needed to express festive joy, but also had to conform to the elegance and gentleness of court literature, which contributed their fresh and beautiful style and elegant and rich artistic style.The fifth chapter discusses the rise and fall of Tiezici in Song Dynasty. Tiezici reached their heyday in the middle Northern Song Dynasty, which appeared in the early Song Dynasty. They were once abolished in Southern Song Dynasty, but later enjoyed a revival. In the Song Dynasty, Tiezici with the national strength after two rose and fell. Therefore it is perceived that Tiezici were deeply rooted in the fertile soil of a powerful dynasty.The unique style Tiezici had their generations and development of the historical backgrounds and the rationality of existence, which was a flourishing Ya Song sound. Though Tiezici was only an application of style, it did not lose strong literary and artistic characteristic, it is also the important part of Chinese culture.
