With the development of social productive force, science and technology target to ahigher direction. The problems that science should solve are also undergoingprofound changes, not only in the areas of internal boundaries, but also in the adjacentareas. And even new cross-disciplinary and complex issues have been grown up inunrelated fields, due to the intersection and penetration of different knowledge. Underthese conditions, you cannot completely solve a problem just relying on a subject, andyou should use multi-knowledge and methods of disciplines to obtain the results youwant to get, with the combination of multi-disciplinary methods and objects.Crossing natural sciences, social studies and humanities, design is a combination ofcross-cutting disciplines’ knowledge, including science, technology and art. As thehighly developed scientific, technical, social, cultural and other elements, theacross-subjects research of design becomes an inevitable trend and an unavoidabletopic of its own field. Today, which kind of knowledge structure the designer shouldhave has become the rethought problem of design profession and education circle. In accordance with the combinative requirements of interdisciplinary andintra-disciplinary knowledge, modern designers should have comprehensiveknowledge which is horizon broadened and advancing knowledge reserved, withprofessional qualities and practical skills, in order to reach an ultimate harmony. Inother words, we should correctly handle the relationships between design and humannature, and natural environment, and culture, and history, and living traditions, thedesigners as well, to reach the balance state of natural fusion, coexist and double win, rather than the roughly confrontation and wanton exploitation. And also thepeople-oriented design purposes for human and life have been achieved in such aharmonious atmosphere. The above points I described is the T-type knowledgestructure in my paper. The interpretation of T-type knowledge structure helps modern designers toconstruct a reasonable knowledge structure, and design education in today’s colleges and universities also have a little benefit from it. The degree of perfection ofdesigners’ T-type knowledge structures is not only related to the expression of thedesigners’ capabilities, but also related to the elements’ harmony from the society, nature, culture and environment. It also, to a certain extent, has a direct impact on thecreativity of enterprises, and even the country and the nation. So, it has importanttheoretical and practical significances.
