Although adverb body research and error analysis of the adverb usages have alreadyget comparatively considerable accomplishments,but explaining adverb in Chinesedictionaries especially in Chinese dictionaries for foreign learners has not aroused sufficientattention.We select three Chinese dictionaries for foreign learners "A Dictionary of Chineseusege:8000words ""The Commercial Press Learners Dictionary of Contemporary Chinese"â€A Learner’s Chinese Dictionaary: lllustrations of The Usagesâ€.The commen262adverbs ofthe three dictionaries have been choosen as the object of our study. Based on the analysis ofthe large amouts of language materials,we examine the paraphrase mode, paraphraseexamples and paraphrase terms in the three dictionaries by the method of quantity statistic andquality analysis to summarize the characteristic of the adverbs’paraphrase and the similaritiesand differences as well. Meanwhile, we make some survey and analysis on the application ofthe adverbs.Finally,based on the study of the first four chapters and the application,we putforward some proposals and strategies for compling the Chinese dictionary for foreignlearners.The thesis is composed of five chapters:Chapter One is the introduction. The first section talks about current reaseach situationsof Chinese dictionary for foreign learners,dictionary paraphrase and the adverbsparaphrase.Then we sum up the accomplishments and deficiencies of the current research.The second section is the outlines,the research theory, methods, studying value of ourresearch.The second chapter deal with the paraphrase modes of the262adverbs we have choosenfrom the three dictionaries,based on the language material.We summarize the modes to twotypes,every type can be divided smaller type.Finally,we find the similarities and differencesin the paraphrase modes of the three dictionaries.In the third chpater,we analyse the paraphrase examples in the three dictionaries andcompare the three dictionaries’examples in quantity,types and grammar information.
