Theory Examples Of Supplement To And Revision For The “Shi” Of Chinese Dictionary

Chinese Dictionary contains 12 volumes of the body,a volume of appendixes and index.With containing about 370,000 items of headwords and over 50,000,000 words,it is considered as a dictionary with the most Chinese words in the world.With the collaboration of many scholars and experts from five provinces and a city,eventually Chinese Dictionary came out after ten years' efforts.Actually,it is a pains-taking task for our predecessors.However,as for such a great big project of cultural establishment as Chinese Dictionary,it is hard to be perfect and it is natural to have some errors.Making full use of database,the library resources and various recent research achievements,the author implements analytic research on words and phrases of the radical of Shi in the 7th volume of Chinese Dictionary.The issues can be summarized and classifies as follows: 1.issue of paraphrase,which includes wrong meaning,incorrect paraphrase,omission of meaning terms,inconsistent documentary evidence with paraphrase,unsuitable integration and separation of meaning terms,adding more words to make the explanation complete and departure of exegetics;2.Issue of documentary evidence,which includes the delay of documentary evidence,lack of documentary evidence,reversion of documentary evidence order,errors of documentary evidence,failing to distinguish real or fake old books and no preparation of documentary evidence;3.Issue of headwords,which includes unscientific establishment of headword,addition of relevant items and the relevant items failing to play to additional role.Following the rule of “keeping the record of evidence and according to the original materials”,the thesis conducts check and comparison on the words and phrases of the radical of Shi in the 7th volume of Chinese Dictionary and detects some issues.With checking the original materials,it makes an analysis and solves the issues.Therefore,it makes classification and summaries to form a systematic research.With the purpose of “detecting errors”,the author hopes to put forward suggestion for the revision and completion of Chinese Dictionary and also hopes to learn more from the experts in this field.
