The site of Unit731was the largest biological weapon research, experimental andmanufacturing base in the history of the world, which is the important modern historicsite retained during the Japanese invasion of China. There are23existing protected siteswith key protected area of248,000square meters. In1982Heritage Management Officewas set up in the Pingfang District, Harbin City and began the comprehensiveprotection of the Site. The site of Unit731was promulgated as a national key culturalrelic’s protection institution by the Chinese State Council in2006, after threelarge-scale protection works of site. It is a shortcoming for the protected site of Unit731as a national key cultural relic’s protection institution, to have no relevant agencies toestablish comprehensive, systematic, and standard portfolios to protect the sites, toaccount for the situation of the conservation status and the surroundingenvironment changes of these sites at different times. To this end, I tried torecord the course of the protection and conservation status of the site of Unit731through a comprehensive survey of Unit731headquarters sites, by way of text, pictures, charts and drawings. Five parts of headquarters base facilities, bacterialaboratory facilities, biological weapon research and production facilities, laboratory animal breeding facilities and dormitory area are included tosystematic investigate and study on the existing state of the sites, the protection, theutilization and the scope of protection and structural safety in accordancewith the historical function of the sites. If the basic situation of the site is exploredsimply, without the crimes of the human experiments, biological warfare and other factsof Unit731, the basic functions and the overall situation of the sites cannotbe explained clearly. To this end, I give the necessary instructions on the history of Unit731, and the protected history of monomer sites. Based on the comprehensive survey ofexisting files, the field measurement, pictures, and drawing, theprevious understanding on the overall size, layout and historical features ofthe site of Unit731are enriched, especially the new discovery of the sitesof the aquarium, and underground back to pool providing an important basisfor further academic research, display, and valuation and measurement, which is ofsignificance for the next step of the overall exploration, excavation and protectionof the sites.
