Under the guidance of modern linguistics theory, such as Presupposition Theory,Language Contact Theory, Focus Theory, to comprehensively analyse the meaning andsentence order of transitional compound sentences in the People’s Daily from1991to2011.Contents of this study mainly include: It respectively analyses the normal clause whichare single marked for the "dan"但(但是)," ke"可(可是)," ran er"(然而)," zhi shi"(只是),"que"(却), but the transition compound sentences’ sentence order, and it studies thecomplements transitional compound sentence order’s situation of supplement class and limitcondition class; From the semantic point of view, it respectively analyses the situations oftransition compound sentences’ word order which has three special forms---Single Markedapplicative on Normal Clause, Multiple Compound Sentence, Single Marked on modifierclause. From the semantic point of view, it respectively analyses the situations of transitionalcompound sentences’ word order which is Single Marked Separately on Normal and ModifierClause class; From the focus of the theory,it explains the reasons why the transitionalcompound sentences’ word order is stable in modern Chinese New Writing, and explainsmodern Chinese evolution of external and internal factors from the perspective of languagecontacts, the relationship between written style and colloquial style. So the conclusions of thisstudy are, from1991to2001, during the twenty years represented by the People’s Daily, themarked transitional compound sentence word order did not change significantly, and it stillmainly maintains the normal word order which is modifier clauses in the former, normalclauses in the back. It occur infrequently that in the other language style the flip-word orderhas not yet penetrated into the formal written Chinese. The evolution of sentence order inModern Compound Chinese is result of language contact and the joint influence of ModernSpoken Chinese and Written Chinese.
