This article defined "Light transition" from two aspects basedon research achievements made by our predecessors: for one thing when sematic meaningis different or opposite between clause and sub-clause,the speaker will express transitionalmeaning in light and mild tone with correlatives, discourse markers or signals if he doesn`twant to stress the opposite meaning. For another thing semantic meaning is not different oropposite but progressive, supplemental or changed between clause and sub-clause. At thesame time, on the semantic classes of light transitional complex sentence, this article madea systematic division:when sematic meaning is different or opposite between clause andsub-clause, the speaker usually use certain correlatives indicate light and mild mood inconsideration of the listeners`feeling, such as mild or indirect mood, relieved mood and soon.when sematic meaning is not diametrically different or opposed between clause andsub-clause, the speaker will use transitional correlatives to express progressive, supplemental or changed meaning.
