The Influence Of Khrushchev’s Soviet Union On China’s Development Of Nuclear Weapons

China’s development of nuclear weapons is a milestone in China’s military development, it is also an important manifestation for strong new China.New China establish early days, due to U.S.’s nuclear deterrent constantly, China urgently needs to develop nuclear weapons, China develop nuclear weapons can only get help from the Soviet Union. However, in the Stalin period, as various reasons, the Soviet Union has not intent to support China’s nuclear weapons R&D. Khrushchev’s reign, in order to get the support of China, Soviet began to loose China’s nuclear weapons development. China’s development of nuclear weapons had a close relationship with Khrushchev’s reign. In this paper, on the basis of collecting a large number of materials, starting from the Sino-Soviet development process, it reveals the Khrushchev effect China’s nuclear weapons development during the Soviet Union.This article included introduction, body, conclusion, and references. The body consists of three parts. The first part:Khrushchev came to power, Soviet supported for China’s development of nuclear weapons, that is the initial support (1954-1957).The second part:the Sino-Soviet began to have differences between the Soviet Union and China, The Soviet Union began to limit assistance to China’s development of nuclear weapons, that is sudden limit. The third part:the Sino-Soviet relation deteriorated, the Soviet Union obstruct China’s development of nuclear weapon, that is the last of the obstruction (1961-1964).The overall Sino-Soviet relations developed tortuously in Khrushchev’s reign, it showed a curve from peak to trough between the Sino-Soviet relations. Soviet’s influence on Chinese nuclear weapon development change in pace with the Sino-Soviet relations curve, this paper study the influence on China’s development of nuclear weapon from Soviet though the change of Sino-Soviet relation. The main measures of the Soviet Union support China’s development of nuclear weapons are Sino-Soviet "Agreement on Soviet Assistance to China Construction Atomic Energy Industry" and Sino-Soviet "Agreement on Defense Technical".Soviet limited Chinese nuclear weapons development though taking part "Nuclear Test Ban". The Soviet Union unilaterally tore up the "Defense Technology Agreement" and "Nuclear Agreement". The Soviet Union obstructed China’s nuclear weapons development by means of undersigning "Part of the Nuclear Test Ban" with U.S., withdrawing experts and taking drawing away.The key to the success of Chinese nuclear weapons is Chinese People’s independent the development of the results. But assistance role of the Soviet Union is also an indispensable important reason. Despite Khrushchev obstructed China’s development of nuclear weapons by perfidious means of undersigning "Part of the Nuclear Test Ban" with U.S., withdrawing experts and taking drawing away, but objectively speaking, these had been unable to stop the nuclear weapons test explosions success. In fact, the situation of scientific and technological development relatively fell behind in China, the Chinese nuclear weapons tested successfully in the short period of time than the United States and the Soviet Union. This is inseparable with the great assistance of the Soviet Union.
