The Study Of The City Image Of Shanghai Structured By EXPO Customized Documentary Film

World Expo is a grand display of mankind’s most advanced scientific and technological achievements of civilization. The historical mission of the documentary is to record the things that may sink, but something of value. Expo2010is a good opportunity for Shanghai to show its own advantage to the world and enhance its city image. To use such an opportunity, the official customized documentary films have become an effective way to propagate the city image.This paper analysis three Expo customized documentary film:"The Bund" by Zhou Bing,"I Wish I Knew" by Jia Zhangke,"City Lights" by Zhou Yaping. Through the analysis of these films, it spreads out a relevant era picture of Shanghai city, culture, evolution. In the narrative of historical events, it explains the influence and significance of the times, building up the imagination of Shanghai city, in order to explore the oriented function of documentary films for the dissemination of ideology. It explores to convey the information and ideas to the world through the Expo, and plays an important role in the process of building a modern city image.The documentary films with different artistic mean show the different identified Shanghai image from three directors. Though they obviously mark the director’s personal style, they are basically in line with the mainstream ideology imagine of the city image of Shanghai, which corresponds to the image and temperament of the international metropolis that Shanghai efforts to build. But, as indicated by "the Bund" that "they do not represent all my history". Shanghai is changeable so that one documentary film alone is difficult to build a complete city image. Perhaps the image of the city is only conferred on it by people’s imaginary, it is not objective existence, but always controls human consciousness.
