With the accelerating globalization and economic integration, china plays a more active role in world affairs. The increasingly frequent international exchange means an effective, instant communication model is in desperate need. Compared with other translation and interpretation forms, simultaneous interpretation is a multilingual service that saves time and reduces cost. The professionalization of simultaneous interpretation gets rapid development.Simultaneous interpreters are expected to lag only three or four seconds of the lecturer, which requires the interpreters dispose what they heard instantly in order to cope with the continuously upcoming information. After the world war two, the scholars at home and abroad have been exploring the effective ways to improve the performances of simultaneous interpretation. The thesis briefly introduces the segmentation technique in simultaneous interpretation. The discussion of segmentation inevitably involves two concepts:syntactic linearity and meaning unit. Through the analysis of the segmentation application in different sentential categories including passive sentences, attributive and adverbial clauses, etc, the thesis attempts to do a little bit contribution in the information disposal capacity in the process of SI. An analysis of SI live performance is provided in the thesis to examine the effectiveness of segmentation usage in SI. The speech is from Pscal Lamy, director general of world trade organization. The analysis result shows that segmentation is of great help in easing the interpreter’s burden in information disposal and assists them to deliver a high interpretive version.
