Syntactic linearity has always been regarded as one of the most important strategies in simultaneous interpretation. For simultaneous interpretation beginners, the huge difference between simultaneous interpretation and consecutive interpretation as well as language difference between Chinese and English often result in various problems. In English to Chinese simultaneous interpretation tasks, these problems include:mixed sentence structures, repeated and unclear personal pronouns, weird expressions, and inaccurate target language output, etc. In order to have a clearer look at the issues, the author examines the English to Chinese interpretation of the remarks on the opening ceremony of 2016 SSPU International Cooperation Week and summarizes the major difficulties simultaneous interpretation beginners encounter in adapting syntactic linearity and suggest possible solutions.
