Since the appearance of accordion, a lot of people have been attracted by its wide diapason, rich tone color and great expressive force. If you amble on the streets in China, Russia, France, and Argentina, you would often appreciate the pretty sound of accordion. What the sound of accordion convey are not only sadness, sweetness but also a bundle of enthusiasm. With the rapid development and growing fusion of the world’s music, the playing of accordion has attracted more and more attention. Notably, many music institutes and colleges have branched out into accordion majors to push it into a brand-new phase. But we need to give an urgent insight into how to break through the traditional playing modes to make it more charming and better satisfy our diversified understandings of music. The tunes to choose, the styles to play with and the techniques to master all need further exploration and development. The extraordinary compositions created by Piazzolla have appealed to numerous listeners across the world. His tango music plays a very important part in the accordion compositions as the skills used have made great contributions to the development of playing accordion. Although his compositions are still not widely played with accordion in China, it is well worth researching how to play his tango with it in terms of musical feelings and playing techniques. Tracing back to the correlations between Argentine folk culture and music, this paper will made a case study of "History of Tango", one of Piazzolla’s classics by focusing on the theoretical researches on the skills in playing free bass accordion to analyse the techniques in playing tango music with accordion and explore the connections and the interplay between playing accordion and Piazzolla’s music. I hope my efforts in practices and theories can provide more and new ideas for playing accordion in-doors and make contributions to its future developments.
