Values Of Socialist Network Culture: A Discussion

The internet, being an important part of people’s social life, plays an active rolein information sharing and cultural transmission. The development and prosperity ofthe internet, however, also bring new tasks and challenges to the building of socialistculture in China: unlike the traditional carrier of culture, the internet not only has thetechnical and industrialized characteristics, but also has the quality of beingideological as thoughts, and being free and virtual, which are the unique features ofdigital social networking platform. Considering its profound impact on China’spolitics, economy, society, foreign affairs and even national security, we must adhereto the socialist core value system, which is the soul of the socialist culture, to lead thenetwork culture construction. It will be the primary task when developing andpromoting socialist network culture with Chinese characteristics. This work can bestarted from six aspects including cultural development and prosperity, legal norms,innovative mechanisms, network technical supports, industrial regulation andself-discipline and integrated governance. Specifically, we should integrate the latestlocalized theoretical achievements of Marxism in China into the moral education ofinternet users to establish and practice the socialist concept of honors and shamesamong them; we should also improve the internet users’ political and socialrecognition with the common ideals of socialism with Chinese characteristics to combine their strength to disseminate and promote the network culture with core ideasas socialism, patriotism and reforming and innovation. Meanwhile, when carrying outthe socialist network culture construction, the problems of network culture values andhow to realize them have become more salient, but the theoretical research in this areais lagging behind, with the increasingly severe contradiction between theory andpractice to be resolved. Therefore, the enhancement of socialist network cultureconstruction can help people grasp its nature and development direction, find the pathand mechanism to develop socialist network culture with Chinese characteristics, andalso meet the people’s increasingly diverse spiritual and cultural needs, thereby topromote the development and progress of the cultural construction.This paper focuses on the theory and practice of the construction of socialistnetwork culture with Chinese characteristics. We present a detailed analysis of thecurrent status of construction of socialism network culture with Chinesecharacteristics, its objectives and related measures. We highlight the importance andurgency of network culture construction led by socialist core value system, in thehope of enhancing people’s awareness of the socialist network cultural constructionand its value and significance. Based on existing research, some new ideas and viewsare put forward, especially some solutions and measures to the new problems faced inthe construction and practice of the socialist network culture, expecting to make somecontribution to the theories and practices of China’s socialist network cultureconstruction.
