The Development Of Newspapering In Qingdao Between1897-1922

The article is divided in two parts, the period of German occupation and the period of Japanese occupation. At first,I analyzed newspapering’s environment during the two periods, and then, I analyzed every newspaper based on the historical files.It focuses on Asiatic Germany Report、Tsingtauer Neueste Nachrichten、Kiautschou Post、Deutsch-Asiatische Warte、Amtsblatt fur bos Deutsche Kiautschou Gebiet、 Deutsch-chinesische Rechtszeitung、Der West=ortliche Bote、Kiautschou-Pau、 Tsingtao Times、Tsingtao Baihua Pao、China Tsingtao Pao、Tsingtao Tongyi Pao、 Ta Tsingtao Pao, about their background、layout、founded objective orientation、 column、speech、well-known figures、important reports and influence.The first modern newspaper of Qingdao is the product of German colonists who invaded this place.It opens the Qingdao modern media industry.The newspapers of Qingdao was closely related to the political situation.From1897to1922,Qingdao has been ruled by Germany at first and then by Japan.In this period,there was more than10newspapers appeared in Qingdao, like German newspapers, Japanese newspapers, English newspapers, Chinese newspapers and the sino-german bilingual newspapers. There were kinds of differences between them,such like the colonists interests, the Qing dynasty government positions, constitutionalists views, revolutionary group opinions and so on,which make the local newspapering richness and complexity.On the other hand, under colonial rule of colonists, Qingdao’s newspapers also presented different domestic characteristics comparing with newspapers in other areas of China.The colonists founded the most newspapers based on servicing their nationals, but also strengthened the colonial rule in Qingdao.Compared with the newspapers founded by German and Japanese, the Chinese newspapers showed more gentle style of the conservative features,though tend to political reform of the people and the enlightenment.Thy got much pressure by colonists and their own government.The modern newspapering of Qingdao got mature in this25years. The rapid commercialization and modernization of the newspapering in this period laid a foundation to the development of newspapers of the1920s.
