The Research Of The Spring And Autumn Period’ Words

Language is the most important tool for human communication. As one component of language, vocabulary undergoes continuous development and change resulted by inner and exterior factors. By the research on vocabulary, therefore, the temporal development of language, society, and human mind could be reflected. The Spring and Autumn Period vocabulary, which connect the Western Zhou Dynasty and Warring States Period, functions a critical link on Chinese vocabulary history. So the research on the Spring and Autumn Period Vocabulary has significant meaning and value. Through the investigation into the Spring and Autumn Period vocabulary phenomena, this paper seeks to present the lexical features during this period and to discover the law of vocabulary development, in order to do enough preparation for the study on Chinese vocabulary history.The paper contains the following chapters:"Introduction". This part mainly introduces the significance and the general situation of the topic, the meaning and methods of the research. We use the<The Great Chinese Dictionary> as our major corpus sources to inspect the temporal terms.Chapter one,"New Symbolic Lexical Field". This part lists some new symbolic lexical field which reflects the social features of the Spring and Autumn period. And the vocabulary in these fields indicates the social content of the Sping and Autumn including the area of politics, enconomy, literature and military, which displays the close connection and interaction pattern of lexical development and social life.Chapter two,"Basic and General Vocabulary". Form the aspects of basic and general vocabulary, this part discusses the words composition of the Spring and Autumn Period. The division of basic and general vocabulary is not absolute. And under certain conditions, they are interchangeable.Chapter three,"Development of Monosyllabic Words". This part presents the situation of monosyllabic word on the Spring and Autumn Period. From the aspect of origin and formation, it looks over the new monosyllabic words and monosyllabic words with new meaning of that period. Chapter four,"Development of Disyllabic Words". This part analyses the disyllabic words situation of the Spring and Autumn Period. From the perspective of polysyllabled words and reduplicated words, it inspects the single-morpheme words in the Spring and Autumn Period. Meanwhile, from the perspective of grammatical structure, it also investigates the compound words of that period. There are three kinds of the most important structure forms.Chapter five,"Development of Phrase". this chapter looks over the idiom, allusion and other phrases in the Spring and Autumn Period."Conclusion". This part summarizes many general rules of the words.
