Research On Phonology Of Weishi Dialect

Weishi is located in Henan Province, in the eastern region of Henan Plain. And it’s dialect belongs to the district of Zhengcao which is a branch of Zhongyuan Mandarin. Henan dialect plays an important role in the national common-language based dialect formation process, and its voice is also known as the Central Plains sound, near Los tone, in Chinese’s history, which has an important status. But in the northern Mandarin dialect study, Henan dialect research has been relatively weak, compared with the dialect study in the surrounding provinces such as Shandong, Shanxi, Jiangsu, etc. There are also very little famous researchers and influential academic achievements. This situation has greatly influenced the development of the studies on Henan dialect, and brought harm to the comprehensive and in-depth study of the dialect.The current study focus on the dialect of Henan Weishi, and has carried out a comprehensive, system investigation and description of the dialect of Weishi. Firstly, this study has made a deep analysis of the phonetic system and characteristics of the Weishi dialect by the comparison of two sides of vertical and horizontal. Then, some problems such as the kinds of tone, setting and tone sandi has been investigated using the method of experimental phonetics. In addition, the dialect of Weishi has been further compared and analyzed with the ancient Chinese and Putonghua phonology system, the historical evolution of Weishi dialect and the differences in tone between Weishi dialect and Putonghua has also been summed up.This thesis, in seven chapters, provides a comprehensive description of the Weishi Dialect and furthermore explores certain important phonetic problems.The First Chapter:Summary. It introduces the general situation of geography, population and the historical evolution of Weishi; related to this article research status, the general research situation in the dialect and the phonetic symbols.The Second Chapter:The Phonetic System of the Weishi Dialect. It describes in detail the phoneme characters of Weishi dialect in consonants, vowels and tones.The Third Chapter:The Phonetic Changes of the Weishi Dialect. It describes the changes in tone including the light and a special change in the end of pronunciation in Chinese. The Fourth Chapter:The Phonetic Comparison Between Weishi Dialect and Mandarin Pronunciation. It compares them in consonants, vowels and tones.The Fifth Chapter:The Phonetic Comparison Between Weishi Dialect and Ancient Pronunciation. It tries to analyze how ancient sounds developed into the Weishi Dialect in three respects.The Sixth Chapter:The regional difference of Weishi Dialect’s internal and external. Make an analyze of Weishi Dialect and constrast it with the dialect of neigehboring region, and then make a new definition of the ownership of Weishi Dialect.The Seventh Chapter:The collection of homophones in Weishi Dialect.Lastly, sum up the phonetic features of Weishi Dialect.
