Report On The Translation Of A Technical Specification

With the economic development in China and the quickened pace of globalization, more and more construction enterprises are taking an active part in international competition, meanwhile, the cooperation in the industry continues to grow. Participating in international bidding activities is the main approach to obtain projects, in which Engineering English plays an important role as a medium. This report mainly discusses the translation of Engineering English.This report is based on a translation task of a large project the author gets from a translation company. It introduces the entrusting party, features of Engineering English, translation strategies, translation process and the case analysis during translation of the author. Based on the author’s own translating practice, the report sums up some problems encountered during the translation of this document, such as fixing the meanings of technical terms, translation of long sentences and translation of passive sentences, then puts forward the coping strategies by giving some examples of the text. Finally, this report summarizes rewards the author obtained from translating this document, as well as several main points in translating engineering documents. This report is in the hope of providing a reference to translators of translating engineering documents.
