In recent years,with the increasing emphasis on education and the increasing prosperity of university education in our country,the conflict between faculty and administration has drawn more and more attention.Bridging the Divide between Faculty and Administration explores in detail the causes of and solutions to the conflicts between faculty and administrators in the areas of endless conflicts between faculty and administration,paradigm differences,as well as effective communication between faculty and administrators.In theory,it provides guidance for the authentic discourse between faculty and administrators,which is of great significance to the management of universities today.Based on the above background,six student translators,including the author,were entrusted by a publisher with the task of translating the book.The author,based on translating the first chapter,summarizes the translation methods adopted in the process of translation after reflecting on the translation difficulties.After carefully reading the original text,the author began to translate it on the basis of fully understanding its style and theme under the guidance of the functional equivalence theory.In the process of translating,the author came across many difficulties in dealing with the technical terms and long sentences in the selected text and,through a continuous revision and reflection,came up with some effective translation methods.While translating technical terms,the following methods are used:literal translation for the terms with equivalents in Chinese,free translation for the terms with no equivalents in Chinese,zero translation for the abbreviated terms,and explanation for the terms difficult for the Chinese to understand if literally translated.As for the long sentences,four translation methods are adopted:sequencing the long sentences with similar temporal or logical order to the Chinese,dividing the long sentences with many coordinate elements and modifiers,embedding used for the long sentences with post-modifiers,and restructuring the long sentences with structures completely different from the Chinese.All in all,a comprehensive and dynamical employment of these methods of translating the technical terms and long sentences ensures that the translation is in accordance with the expression of the Chinese on the basis of transmitting the original information as much as possible,which is beneficial to the Chinese readers'understanding of the text.Based on an analysis of the typical cases selected in the translation task,this report explores the main methods of translating English technical terms and long sentences,which may provide a reference to the translation of technical terms and long sentences of such texts.
