Wang Zengqi is always regarded as a nondescript novelist to the literary circles. In the early1980s, Wang "returned" to the literary world and caught public’s eyes with his fresh and harmonious fiction, by which he fixed his image as well. In1990s, he declared to change his methods of writing. The older he grew, the stronger his desire to change was. Differences are reflected in his fiction written in1990s. Wang Zengqi’s fiction those written in1990s provide an insight to his remaining years. Only by concatenating the fiction written in1990s and those before1990can we restore a complete and real "image" of Wang Zengqi. Taking Wang Zengqi’s fiction written in1980s as a reference along with his fiction written in1990s as the study object, this thesis seeks to explore his continuation and evolution in the themes and the narrative styles. Besides, the thesis also analyses the psychological causes of his desire to change in1990s, so as to present a full understanding of Wang’s writting ideality--praising the beauty, love and vitality, criticizing the false, evil, ugly, and calling for returning to human nature.
