On Griffin’s Theory Of Post-modernism Science

As the representative person of the constructive postmodernism, Griffin take a review of modernity and modern science from science and religion, to build a theory of post-modernism science. The theory is different from Individualism, Human centralism and scientific socialism in the modernity. This paper tries to dig the factors about scientific-culture in the Griffin’s post-modernism theory and try to explore the value of the post-modernism scientific.The foundation of metaphysics is organic theory in the theory of Griffin’s post-modernism science. Organic theory is not only affirm of the individual subjectivity and empirical, but also confirm that the relation between the final cause and purpose. On the basis of the Organic theory, Griffin Points out that the paradigm of postmodernism scientific is Pan-experientialism and Integrate Organism. The Pan-experientialism pointed out that the basic unit of the things is not the existence without the experience in the Materialism, but is a series of experience events. It points out that the heart and body is alike and interactive. Integrate organism stress the relationship of Part and the whole on the basis of Relativity and Quantum mechanics from development of new achievements of science, and emphasize the organic connection between the parts and whole, show that the heart and body is unified. The Pan-experientialism and Integrate organism is the metaphysics foundation of Griffin’s post-modernism science, also make the science charming, and laid the foundation for integrating the science and humanities.On the basis of Pan-experientialism and Integrate Organism, Griffin emphasizes that the importance of experience, value and ethics in science, and points out that the science is not only pursue the truth, and also should not be confined to the laboratory test. As the parts of human knowledge, scientific knowledge and the humanities knowledge are equal and incorporated. The relationship between man and nature also been solved properly under Integrate Organism. So far, the Griffin’s theory of post-modernism science could set up completely, it have important value on recovering the subjectivity in science and natural and solving the problems between. In addition, Griffin’s theory has garnered particular attention because that it has the strong religious color. But because Griffin does not give enough interpretation about Pan-experientialism and the end of modernity, his theory still has some limitations.
