Teacher is the key factor among the three elements—teacher, teaching and education--of TCFL. To some extent, the quality of the teachers determines whether TCFL will succeed or not. However, few researches and studies are conducted to answer what kind of qualities the teachers should have. Based on the analysis of group characteristics of foreign language teachers and combined with the real situation of TCFL, the study explores the detailed information about the standards of Chinese language teachers in America and Chinese international education standards for teachers in China. Then, the paper comes up with some ideas about the quality of TCFL teachers according to the real situations. What’s more, the study discusses the problems existed during the development of TCFL teachers and points out some suggestions for their future development and improvement.According to the research, the study finds out that:to start with, quality of TCFL teachers contains the following aspects—a good mastery of Chinese communication skills, comprehensive linguistic knowledge, mastering some basic educational theories and general teaching skills, having some research capacity, having capacity for educational reform and having a certain foreign language proficiency. At the same time, there are some problems existing: inadequate teaching training, imperfect teacher assessing system and its implementation, the lack of effective incentives and continuing education mechanism. In order to solve these problems, the study puts forward some suggestions from different perspectives. From teachers’ perspective, first, they should enhance their professional skills and improve their language teaching abilities; second, they should have awareness of keeping on learning and being lifelong learners; third, they should have a sense of innovation and keep up the trends of the times; fourth, they should strengthen their awareness of service and meet the needs of students; fifth, they should develop their national awareness to build up friendship with foreign countries. From the nation’s perspective, it should train teachers with different types and levels according to the needs of TCFL and research work. Then, it should lay special emphasis on teachers’ training project. Moreover, it should take effective measures to train back-up teachers for the future use. Last, it should establish some competitive mechanisms to assess the teachers’ performance.
