With the promotion of the “One Belt and One Road” project and the inclusion of RMB in the SDR currency basket,an increasing number of foreigners are learning Chinese,which contributes to the surge in demand for international Chinese teachers.Nevertheless,a large proportion of MTCSOL(Master of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages)graduates cannot meet the requirements of teaching Chinese abroad due partly to their insufficient English proficiency.The lack of competent teachers has become one of the biggest obstacles to the development of International Chinese Education.Domestic English teachers with a good command of English and cross-cultural communication can switch to international Chinese teachers,which would effectively alleviate the talent gap.Based on the result of questionnaire survey and interviews,the author probes into the teachers' willingness,the feasibility,and the barriers,analyzes the requirements that domestic English teachers should meet in order to become competent international Chinese teachers,and puts forward practical suggestions on teacher training.Hopefully the quality of international Chinese teachers can be improved and therefore,they can better promote Chinese language and Chinese culture to the world.
