The curriculum reform brings a lot of challenges to middle school teachers in educational notions , teaching methods, teachers' roles and so on. It also brings much impulsion to the system of teachers' education. Therefore, in order to make excellent talents who can be adapt to the new curriculum easily, we should resconsider the training goals of geography teachers of normal universities where is the cradle of middle school teachers.Based on the qualities of geography teachers, by analyzing the goals and notions of the new corriculum,we realize the qualities geography teachers must have under the new curriculum of geography. We discuss requests on qualities of the geography teachers from analyzing and concluding to the training goal at present; We find out a lot of deficiencies and limitations in the training goals at present from a comparative analysis between them and analysis of the course setting under the training goals at present.The training goals at present in normal universities is vague and extensive, the mainly limitation of which is emotional atitude, knowledge goals and capacicy goals. In the perspective of emotional atitude, little amphasize is put on training in occupational feelings with outdated educational notions. Little amphasize is put on the knowledge of education, psychology , and science and cultural knowledge in the knowledge goals. In the capacity goals, much lower requests are put on the science research capabilities and innovative capabilities. In this research we made a deep survey with questionnaire to the geography teachers in senior high school, which shows geography teachers trained in normal universities under the training goals at present lack some qulities in teaching performance in new curriculum which leads to the effective implemention of the new curriculum. After examing the training goals under the background of the new curriculum,we rebuild the trining goals for training geography teachers in normal universities which includes occupational goals, professional goals and developing goals.with the limitation of training goal now . Occupational goals which are necessery qualities for teaching career includes four parts: moral cultivation, humanity attainment, teaching ability and mental and plusical. The professional goals which are professional qualities for geography teachers include geography knowledge attainment, geography skill accomplishment and geography affection which reflects the requiment of the development of the era and implementation of the new curriculum. The developing goals include four parts: the renovation of the educational notion, ability to get and deal with the geography information, cooperative ability and innovative abilities.Weather the traing goals are scientifical or not relates to teacher's qualities derectly. Only under the guide of correct, concrete and forword-looking training goals can produce qualified geography teachers who can adapt to the new curriculum. This dissertation rebuild the training goals system with occupational goal, professional goal and developing goal which is adventruous exploration and attempt to the study of training goals and forms the major initiative ideas of this study.
