Study On The Modern Chinese Dictionaries’ Types And Distribution

This article uses foreign dictionaries typology theory and our dictionary classificationtheory for reference.From the Editor’s perspective，combining the nature and characteristics ofthe of Chinese characters,we make preliminary description and analysis of modern Chinesedictionary types, summarize the distribution and problems modern Chinese dictionaries’ typespublished in China and give a few suggestions to the lexicographer work.The article is divided into six parts:The Introduction section describes the context of modern Chinese dictionary, includingits category, the modern research of type, purpose and significance, research materials,research methods and theoretical basis and so on.Part one is the theoretical foundation of the modern Chinese dictionary type, introducingtypology of the major dictionaries of the foreign theory and the views related to dictionarytype research in China, and on the basis of these theories, we build the type system of themodern Chinese dictionary from the ontological perspective and the reader perspective.Part two is from the synchronic point of view describing the distribution of the ModernChinese Dictionary type. Dictionary compilation and publication of more than one century isdivided into five periods to describe the different periods of Chinese dictionary compilation ofbackground, distribution, and distribution characteristics.Part three is the description from a diachronic point of view of modern Chinesedictionary distribution. We specificly describe each type of dictionary distribution of changesin status of the overall, and summarize the changes in the characteristics and trends ofdevelopment of each type of dictionary.Distribution problems of modern Chinese dictionaries is introduced in the forth chapter:the insufficient number of many types of dictionaries, some dictionary repeat seriouspublication and the irrational distribution of readers are the issues of modern Chinesedictionaries.In Conclusion, it is recommended to improve the dictionary compilation and publicationfrom the following aspects: enhancing the research in the needs of dictionary users;publishing dictionary for different types of users; enhancing the research in lexicographer;perfecting professional dictionaries personnel; making dictionary compilation of standardization and modernization; protecting intellectual property rights of the dictionaries.
