This research tries to analyze the images of the mainland Chinese in many Hong Kongmovies in order to discover the process of the cultural changes of these images in Hong Kongmovies of the recent30years. By doing so,this research also tries to discuss the problem ofhow the Hong Kong Culture finds its way to express itself under a new times background,andthen finds out the most proper form of the Mainland-Hong Kong relation in the future.At first,the introduction part discusses and analyzes three main problems:1) how doesthe Hong Kong movie made the mainland Chinese as ‘others’;2) political and social originsof the cultural changes on the images of mainland Chinese in Hong Kong movies;3) HongKong movies’ cultural imagination on the mainland.Then,according to important historical events this research divides the process of thecultural changes in recent30years into4periods: period of serious discrimination before thereturn of Hong Kong (1980—1984),conflicting transition period (1984—1997),combinationperiod after the return of Hong Kong (1997—2003) and post-CEPA period (2003—2011). Ineach period this research discusses the cultural background,main feature and typicalcharacters of the mainland Chinese’s images in Hong Kong movies and tries to find outdifferent ways the Hong Kong movies used to make the image of mainland Chinese and itsreasons.At last,by longitudinal comparison of the mainland Chinese’s images made by the HongKong movie and the Hollywood movie,this research tries to find the fundamental reason forthe differences between them. And then,tries to summarize the uniqueness of the mainlandChinese’s images in the Hong Kong movie and its reason. In the end of this research,we willdiscuss worries and expectation about the development of the Hong Kong movie through thecultural changes mentioned above.
