This thesis studies the C-E translation of the lexis of Chinese folklore in the international communication materials from the perspective of Skopos Theory. In the21st century, the trend of globalization goes wider and deeper. In the field of culture, the cultural globalization develops rapidly. Simultaneously, the culture pluralism which defenses the cultural diversity is getting popular. As the product of the oldest civilization, Chinese culture is greatly different from the western culture. Nowadays, as China develops, the distinguished Chinese culture, especially the Chinese folklore is drawing more and more international attention. As the essential part of Chinese culture, Chinese folklore is extremely diversified and exotic and conveys the unique characteristics of Chinese and Chinese culture, which has become a kind of potential tourist resource attracting more and more foreign tourists. So the translation of the lexis of Chinese folklore plays an increasingly important role in the dissemination of Chinese folklore. The international communication material (ICM) plays the dominant role in disseminating Chinese folklore. The rise of China boosts the development of Chinese international communication. In recent years, all kinds of international communication materials introducing Chinese folklore are booming. The C-E translation of the lexis of Chinese folklore in IC materials is drawing increasing attention. In this thesis, the author applies the Skopos Theory to study the C-E translation of the lexis of Chinese folklore in IC materials. The aim of the translation of the lexis of Chinese folklore in IC materials is to "explain China to the World", to preserve and disseminate Chinese folklore authentically and appropriately. According to Skopos Theory, in order to achieve this aim, the documentary translation type proposed by Nord is the proper translation type for the Chinese folklore translation. Accordingly, the translation principle adopted is foreignization which is helpful not only for preserving the unique Chineseness of the lexis of Chinese folklore, but also for satisfying the eagerness that the foreigners have for knowing the authentic Chinese folklore. Besides, the lexis translated under the guidance of the foreignization principle can enrich the target language and culture. In line with the foreignization principle and the characteristics of the lexis of Chinese folklore, the author suggests four translation methods:transliteration with notes, literal translation with notes, borrowing and adding pictures. As the lexis of Chinese folklore is highly diversiform and heavily culture-loaded, different Chinese folklore lexis can be translated by different methods, and different methods can be combined flexibly to translate the same Chinese folklore lexis.
