Neologism is an important subject in lexicological studies. The development of neologisms results from social development and progress of the language itself. Neologisms pervade every aspect of our daily life, including politics, economy, science&technology, people’s livelihood, to name a few. Not only do the neologisms in the contemporary Chinese language enrich the ways of expression during the interpersonal communications with their enormous vividness and communicativeness, but they also reflect the real-time development of China’s development and improvement in the fields of politics, economy, science&technology as well as society&culture, etc. Some neologisms, which factually, or humorously, or profoundly, or implicitly mirror the problems existing in the course of China’s development, are created by politically active netizens and thus become popular overnight on the Internet. Such neologisms can serve as the optimal references for political leaders at various governmental levels when deliberating on key policies or decisions related to people’s livelihood and core interests and concerns along with other social problems.Studying Chinese neologisms can help further understand the lexicological formations and other lexicological features of the Chinese language. Besides, doing corpus-based statistics on Chinese neologisms as carried out in this thesis project to generalize the law of lexicological formation of Chinese neologisms is also of essential significance for further development of the theory of teaching Chinese as a second language on the one hand. On the other, it also helps further understand the similarities and differences of lexicological formations between Chinese and English, which therefore plays an important role in the further development of English-Chinese comparative teaching theory and lends a helping hand to English or Chinese language speakers in learning Chinese vocabulary or English vocabulary effectively and efficiently. With the integration of world economy and facilitation of globalization, communications between different nations and cultures have become more and more frequent. However, due to linguistic and culture differences, misunderstandings happen occasionally which in some extreme cases lead to armed or non-armed conflicts. Chinese neologism translation study is subsumed in the framework of translation studies. As lexicon is the most basic constituent of sentences and passages, a study on lexicon translation strategies is of important referential significance to the translation of sentences and passages.Given these, this thesis is dedicated to the study of translation of Chinese neologisms into English based on case study and other qualitative methods. Following the structural pattern of "problems-solutions", this thesis makes a brief introduction to neologism in the first place, including its definition, characteristics, classification. It then explores and analyzes the problems in the translation of Chinese neologisms, followed by the discussions of strategies that should be adopted. The requirements of translators are also featured.
