Against the backdrop of economic globalization and informationization, new things and new concepts keep springing up, which will surely drive the dramatic changes in Chinese. One of its salient features is the birth of a large number of neologisms. Thanks to the efficient media, almost all these neologisms are well covered in Chinese news.Likewise, they also demonstrate China’s daily changes on such occasions as press conference and national leaders’ meeting mainly by means of interpreting. Hence one can see that the interpretation of neologisms in Chinese news is crucial to information transmission. However, the freshness of neologisms and the specific requirements in interpreting lead to difficulties for the interpretation of these neologisms. In addition, due to the limitation of related researches both at home and abroad, there are still a lot of problems in this aspect. Interpreters cannot reach consensus because of the lack of theoretical guidance. Therefore, it’s essential to carry out in-depth research on this issue.Combining with the personal interpreting practice and taking Nida’s Functional Equivalence(FE) theory as the guidance, the author of this thesis carries out researches on the interpretation of neologisms in Chinese news on the basis of numerous related materials. Firstly, the author summarized the definition, classification and features of neologisms. Then the current research status for the interpretation of these neologisms as well as problems commonly seen in the interpreting process, for instance, Chinglish and redundancy, are analyzed in detail. Finally, applicable interpreting strategies are put forward, such as literal interpretation and transliteration, etc. The author believes that Nida’s FE theory has profound guiding significance in the interpretation of Chinese neologisms in the news report and sincerely hopes that the research conducted in this thesis will provide references and guidance for interpreters so as to improve the interpreting quality and efficiency.
