Nowadays Chinese is the most important foreign language except English in Thailand. With frequent cooperation between China and Thailand on politics, economics and culture, more and more Thai schools open Chinese courses. As result, the number of learning Chinese increases yearly. China National Office for teaching Chinese as a foreign language has been putting lots of efforts including human resources, materials and fund into Chinese education in Thailand to promote its development. In the vigorous promotion and support of two governments, now Chinese education in Thailand is in the best time of development throughout history. This thesis discusses how to stimulate and cultivate interest for Thai secondary school students to learn Chinese. Moreover, the author makes detail analyses on the topic with her teaching experience in Mukdahan School located in Mukdahan province, Thailand.There are five parts in this thesis. Part1elaborates reasons and purposes for the chosen topic. In addition, research status at home and abroad is stated. Part2specifically analyses the teaching object from both macroscopic and microcosmic views. Then the author explores why her students lack interest in learning Chinese. Analyses in this part are based on the author’s careful observation and practical investigation on students. Thus, the author finds out most students don’t have interest in learning Chinese. Part3is the main part of the thesis. In this part, solutions are put forward according to the above analyses and the existing problem. These solutions are methods for stimulating and cultivating students" interest to learn Chinese, such as. cleaning up students’fear of difficulties for Chinese learning, playing games during the teaching process in the class, allowing full play for students" specialty of problem solving, developing Chinese activities or contests, properly emphasizing Chinese culture teaching, taking various teaching modes and lightening classroom atmosphere. In the discussion of each method, specific teaching cases the author met during her teaching are attached to analyze. Part4is the feedback after those methods being taken. The feedback information is collected from investigations by means of questionnaire and interview on students when the whole course is over. The result of these investigations fully proves that those methods are feasible and effective. While at the same time there are still some defects of the methods. Part5is the conclusion which simply summarizes the main content of the thesis and its research meaning.This thesis is the author’s self-conclusion and self-improvement based on her own teaching experience. Furthermore, it tries to offer some opinions with reference value on Mukdahan School’s Chinese teaching. The author hopes the thesis could inspire the successor’s work. In addition to this, students’ lacking interest in learning Chinese is not the individual case of Mukdahan School. This problem exists everywhere in Thai secondary schools. In other words, the problem is universal. Therefore, the author hopes these teaching methods proposed in the thesis could offer certain valuable reference materials for Chinese teaching in Thai secondary schools. Additionally. to some extent, hope it could promote Chinese teaching in all Thai secondary schools.
