From the1990’s, Chinese dramas has began to transmit to Vietnam and eventually began popular in the country. From the perspective of cultural studies, the difference of cultures is the reason that causes the lack of popularity of western dramas in Vietnam. However, the popularity of Chinese dramas in the country has shown the phenomenon of "culture proximity". The land of Vietnam and China is connected. Both the countries have over thousand years of history linkage including the similar origin of cultures, geographic features, norms and values as well as the heritage. Hence, the intimacy that the Chinese dramas have bought stirred up the interests of the Vietnam audiences. Many Chinese dramas have been arranged to be shown during the "golden hours" by Vietnamese televisions stations and were profoundly embraced by the local audiences. Therefore, the Vietnamese market has nurture a huge amount of loyal Chinese dramas fans.This dissertation studies the effects Chinese dramas on the local film and drama industry from the perspective of intercultural communication studies and uses the "transmission of Chinese dramas in Vietnam" as the object of study to observe the communication milestone and the acceptance of Chinese dramas among Vietnamese audiences. Hopefully, this dissertation can be a reference for the development of the Vietnamese film and drama industry as well as the transmission of Chinese dramas in Vietnam.
