With the rapid development of today’s economic globalization, the exchanges between China and the world have become more frequent. China’s development is inseparable from the world, and the development of the world also needs China. Political documents, as part of the important external publicity of spreading China’s political system, principles and policies and the ideological and theoretical thoughts, represent a deep imprint of Chinese culture and ideologies. Therefore, translating the Chinese political documents is conducive to helping the people of the world to understand China’s political system, principles and policies, as well as political stand. Based on the previous studies, and combining with translation examples of the Report on the Work of the Hunan Provincial Government (2008), this paper discusses the English translation of words and sentences in political documents from the perspective of functional equivalence in detail, which aims at improving the quality of the English translation of political documents, and hopes to help inspire the future research in this area.
