This thesis focuses on three piano sonatas by Chopin. By technical analysis, it deals with their compositional characteristics in terms of structure, harmony, melody and texture and tries to reveal the artistic intention of the composer. In addition, the author discusses, from the perspectives of performing and teaching, the aspects of pianistic techniques that need to be included into consideration in the performance of these compositions, which, it is hoped, may help to produce better interpretation. It is the author’s wish that this study can contribute to the understanding of the significant value Chopin’s piano sonatas have in his creative career as well as in the genre of piano sonata in Romantic period. |
