With the deepening of the opening up after China’s accession to the WTO, all walks of life require the higher standard of English, so English learning begins to receive more and more attention from the teachers and scholars. With the in-depth development of the humanism and the continuing reform of English teaching in China, the position of the learning interest in English learning increasingly gets people’s attention. However, China as a large agricultural country, and agricultural colleges and universities play an important role in cultivating the technology professionals for the development of national agricultural modernization, but the English learning interest of the students in agricultural universities has not been given the sufficient attention. Therefore, this study focuses on what the current situation of English learning interest of the students in agricultural universities is, what the relevant factors that affect the level of interest in English teaching are, and how to motivate and cultivate students’ learning interest in the future.On the basis of the previous studies, this study reviewed the concepts and classification of the learning interest, analyzed the influencing factors of learning interest comprehensively, and understood the current research situation of China’s college students’English learning interest. Taking423non-English sophomores of Huazhong Agricultural University as the object of the research, this study, through questionnaires, classroom observations and interviews, surveyed the general situation of their English learning interest, as well as the different situation in gender, major and family background, and analyzed the influencing factors of the undergraduate interest in learning English from the aspects of the student, the teacher and the university. Finally, according to research findings, this paper mainly made the suggestions from aspects of the teacher and the university, and explored new ways of how to combine "stimulating interest" and "holding interest" better.Based on the findings of this study, the conclusions are as follow: firstly, overall, the English learning interest level of undergraduate students in the agricultural university falls under the middle level, and there are no significant differences of students’ English learning interest level in gender, major and family background. Secondly, the factors of student, teacher and university all affect the students’ English learning interest from the different aspects in varying degrees, and among them the student factors have the greatest influence, followed by teacher factors, and finally the university factors.
