In this day and age, job stress has been frequently researched by scholars of psychology, organization behavioristics and management. An appropriate amount of stress has a positive influence upon employees’work efficiency while excessive stress may impact workers negatively, which plays a pivotal role in the development of organization. As the social man, it seems difficult for our survival and development without certain social support. There is a large body of empirical evidence suggesting that psychological stress, including job stress, is negatively related with job satisfaction, whereas social support holds inherent advantages in relieving stress as well as promoting satisfaction. This study contains two empirical researches by surveying bank employees from one domestic commercial bank. In study1, through some statistical methods, such as confirmatory factor analysis, reliabilities and validities of JSS, MSQ and ISSB were examined. In study2,5508employees from this commercial bank were investigated in terms of social support’s mediation, and relationship with job stress as well as job satisfaction via questionnaires. The statistical methods including correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis, and structural equation method were applied during this process. The main findings in the above two studies are as follows:1. Job Stressor Scale, Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire and Inventory of Socially Supportive Behavior have high reliability and validity in the sample of bank employees.2. Job stress of male is significantly higher than that of female. Job satisfaction of employees those under45drops gradually according to the lowering of age. Job stress of client managers is significantly higher than that of employees from other job positions.3. Social support of female is significantly higher than that of male. Older the workers are, less social support they acquire. Employees under the junior college level acquire less social support among workers.4. The male employees’ score is significantly higher than the female employees’in the job satisfaction. Employees working as salesmen or employees under25have highest score in the job satisfaction. The bank employees’level of job satisfaction drops gradually according to the lowering of administrative ranks.5. The social support and job satisfaction are negatively correlated with the job stress, whereas social support is positively correlated with the job satisfaction. Multiple regression analysis showed different types of job stress and social support influence job satisfaction in different degree. Job stress from job task influences job satisfaction positively while job stress from other respects influences job satisfaction negatively. Informational support is the only positive predictor among all types of social support.6. Social support serves as a partial mediator between job stress and job satisfaction.
