Qu Wenzhong is an excellent composer following Qing Zhu, Huang Zi, ChenTianhe, Jiang Dingxian, Liu Xue’an and many other composers in1970s. In1970s, under the rampage of the "Gang of Four", our country’s music career presents a withered and dying scene. People still did not pay much attention to the creation of art songs until late1970s and early1980s, while Qu continued his career in Hong Kong, and wrote a lot of great art songs, which have made up for the shortcomings of this period in creation field. Many mainland musicians and music scholars did not know Qu’s work quite well, since he moved to Hong Kong during the Cultural Revolution, and most of the songs were produced at that time. Actually, these works are worth arranging and studying from the point of the artistic value. Qu said "As long as I’m alive, I would like to dedicate my life to art". He took this as his motto and paid for this for17years until his sudden death which made people felt sorry, since he created a lot of great art songs, and left a valuable asset for future generations. It’s worth learning and carrying forward his relentless pursuit of music creation and life-long struggle of the Chinese music industry, so we take this article to commemorate the20th anniversary of Mr. Qu’s death.The thesis is attempting to research the characteristics of Qu’s art songs and analysis the singing style.The main body of the thesis is divided into four parts as follows:The first part is about the overview of Qu Wenzhong’s biography and the over view of his music creation. By introducing Qu’s family background, learning environment, the impact of the social environment on his work and a concise analysis of his creation’s form and style in his different period of his life, we conclude that Qu’s creation is rooted in national tradition concept and ingeniously integrated into the modern characteristics,and his striving to use the musical language that modern audience can understand and appreciate,which makes the music easier to sing.The second chapter analyzes the overall characteristics of the Qu Wenzhong’s art songs. It gives a further explanation about the lyrics, composition, melodic characters, accompaniments, harmonic,singable,and some other aspects which can reflect his writing style.The third part,the core part, analyzes the characteristics of Qu’s different types of art songs, This part shows the two basic types of art songs:art songs of ancientpoetry and modern poetry, then discussed the lyrics background, musical structure,Adjusted tonal,songwriter combination,accompaniment texture of these two type which became the core of the paper.The last part talks about how to grasp Qu WenZhong’s singing style of art songs. Through the accumulation of theory with the author’s many years of concert experience, this part takes the point of the aesthetic principles of the second recreation in the concert, the use of vocal skills, and emotion in the singing and accompaniment co-ordination aspects to analyzes the singing style of Qu’s art songs.
