The definition of the concept of cross-culture is based on the field of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. It is also the sign of the promotion of the Chinese international education. As it has gained greater influence on textbooks, it has drawn the attention of many textbook researchers. Therefore, academically, there is a relationship between the TCFL textbooks and cross cultural communication. TCFL textbooks is different from the ordinary language teaching textbooks, the compiling principle of the latter one doesn’t need to consider the different cultural backgrounds of learners, only following the basic concept of compiling and then making innovation in this range; while the compiling of TCFL textbooks is more complicated, many factors need to be considered in the process of compiling, especially when there is a large cultural differences between learners, the cross-cultural factors should be included in the textbook evaluation in order to make TCFL textbooks more scientific and inclusive. This essay made a concrete analysis of TCFL textbooks from the perspective of cross cultural communication based on five TCFL textbooks which are representative and widely used, trying to find out the advantages and disadvantages of TCFL textbooks in the field of cross-cultural communication, especially the culture attitude conveyed in textbooks. From the point of learners, this essay made a survey and analysis. Through the study of reasons from historical inertia of the deep cultural transmission, this essay gave some suggestion on textbooks compiling. This essay is divided into the following steps:The first step is to make a general survey of cultural orientation on the content of textbooks from a macro perspective. The second step draws three conclusions on TCFL textbooks based on questionnaire survey and interviews for foreign students. The problems includes the doubt of the fidelity of textbook content, the unconformity between the choosing of culture content and the students’interest, and the inconsistent between our cultural evaluation and foreign students’. Then this essay analyzes the textbooks from these three points, and draws a conclusion which is consisting with foreign students’ opinion. The third step is to find out the reasons from the cross-culture perspective according to the survey results. It mainly violates two principles of cross cultural communication:the lack of tolerance and respect during cultural transmission and the one-way output of culture. But the deeper culture reasons are the internal spread inertia and the long time influence of external spread from Western perspective. Finally, based on the conclusion, textbooks compilers should improve cross-cultural awareness and the ability of the accumulation and processing of materials. This essay analyzes the current Chinese textbooks by the method of questionnaire survey and document analysis which is innovative. Analyzing from cross-cultural perspective, the view of this essay is more original. However, the survey results may be impacted to some extent due to the limitation of sample size and the quantity of textbooks.
