Due to the globalization and the prosperity of tourism, Chinese tourist translation is getting flourishing but accordingly many problems unavoidably appear on the Chinese tourist translation market. The translations of low quality are running wild, which lies in that the tourism professionals lack sense of social responsibility and professional skills. In fact, successful translation should be done under the guide of proper principle and strategy. This thesis intends to discuss the proper principle and strategy in the translation of the tourist brochure of Taohuayuan.First the motivation of the author, significance and structure of the thesis are referred to. Then the author briefly introduces the development of inbound tourism in China, problems in tourist translation as well as opportunity and challenge brought about by globalization.Then the author analyzes the functional and stylistic features of the tourist brochure of Taohuayuan. To some extent, the target brochure is informative and appellative. But there exist some mistakes or errors such as spelling mistakes and language redundancy. The author thinks that it results from the translaor’s poor linguistic proficiency, poor awareness of cultural difference and weak social responsibility.Furthermore, the author points out that the translaor should take the theory of Reiss’s text typology and Nord’s "Function Plus Loyalty" as the guidance of tourist translation. The translator should do his work in accordance with Translation Brief and pay special attention to "acceptability" and "appellativeness" of the target tourist text. Accordingly, it is proper and practical to adopt the method of "instrumental translation". In addition, some particular translation techniques such as omission, revision and amplification can be used to achieve the non-linguistic purposes.Finally, the author emphasizes the feasibility and importance of "appellativeness" in tourist brochure translation. And it is of vital importance for a translator to acquire great bilingual ability and be familiar with the cultural differences.
