The study of metaphor has a long history in academic field. Metaphor is traditionally regarded as a figure of speech in literature. As the development of cognitive linguistics, metaphor begins to draw more and more attention. Metaphor, in fact, is not only a language phenomenon, but a cognitive one. It is in nature a way of thinking, knowing and conceptualization to understand the outside world by virtue of familiar things.Men view themselves as the measurement of the world, and use their body parts to understand, experience complicated and abstract things. Body metaphors are universal in languages, but in different cultures the images reflected diverse. As one of the most classical works of Chinese literature, Hong Lou Meng is considered as the encyclopedia of Chinese culture. It contains many cultural elements with Chinese characteristics, among which xin (心) is one of them and appears many times. Based on cognitive linguistics, a detailed analysis is made on the integrated modes and mapping features of the phrases related to xin in the first eighty chapters of Hong Lou Meng corpus, as well as the concordance frequency between the Chinese and Yang Xianyi’s English version. At last, several English-to-Chinese translation methods for different modes with xin are proposed and analyzed in hope that the gap between English and Chinese cultures could be bridged.
