A Study Of "Genben(根本)"-class Adverbial Words In Denying Structures Of Modern Chinese

Besides the introduction-Chapter one, there are four parts in this paper:Chapter two is a brief introduction to research background of the "genben(根本)"-class adverbial words in denying structures. It defines related concepts, demarcates scope of this small class adverbial word according to the different syntactic structure, and discusses them in the form of combination. Chapter three is a syntax analysis of the "genben(根本)’’-class adverbial words in denying structures. It mainly describes this small class adverbial words from a syntactic aspect, and analyzes their choices and limit problems to two major negative words "bu(-不)"and "mei(没)"Chapter four is a semantic analysis of the "genben(根本)’’-class adverbial words in denying structures. It mainly analyzes variety semantic relations of this small class of the adverbial words in denying structures, and has a comparative analysis to the differences emerged in semantics between these adverbial words. Chapter five is a pragmatic analysis of the "genben(根本)"-class adverbial words in denying structures. It investigates emphatically into the different pragmatic characters of this adverbial class, and has a comparative analysis to the special effects emerged in language function between these adverbial words.Based on mass language materials and previous research achievements about this topic, using the method of grammatical and semantic categories, benefitting from Markedness theory and presupposition in pragmatics, this thesis investigates systematically the "genben(根本)"-class adverbial words in denying structures from new different angles, using the three-level theory(syntactic-semantic-pragmatic). This paper tries to analyze this kind of adverbial words comprehensively and thoroughly.Grounding on the five parts above, the thesis summarizes "genben(根本)’’-class adverbial words in denying structures in chapter six, and points out the innovation of this paper. that is for the first time we have a deep analysis to syntax characters and pragmatic effects of the "genben(根本)’-class adverbial words in denying structures using three-level theory(syntactic-semantic-pragmatic). At the same time. we point out a few deficiencies existing in this research and some problems that should be deeply studied in further.
