The Research Of China’s Cultural Diplomacy Towards ASEAN After The Cold War

Since the Cold War was over in1991, China had established normal dialoguerelationship with ASEN, which lead the bilateral cooperation to a new stage ofdevelopment. In the year of2010, the establishment of China-ASEN Free Trade Areabrought the relationship of two sides into the best time in history. This change isclosely related to the China’s growing economic and military power, but it can not beseparated from the China’s cultural diplomacy towards ASEN. Now, China has shownpowerful cultural influence in ASEN. With the natural geographical and culturaladvantage, and the solid foundation of establishing cooperation in political andeconomic domain, China had carried out rich and diverse forms of cultural diplomacywith ASEN in education, tourism, literature, artistic and informative area. Thecultural diplomacy has become the important force to promote the friendlydevelopment of the relationship between China and ASEN. However, some issuessuch as the bad influence of "China Threat", the unresolved problem of southernborder issues, the cultural conflicts from cultural differences, the undevelopedeffectively of cultural market, and the lack of influence of the core values haverestrained China’s cultural diplomacy from strengthening in the region. On this basis,the thesis tries to forward some suggestions on how to strengthen China’s culturaldiplomacy in ASEAN further.The thesis has five sections. The first section mainly introduces the significance，the current situation，the train of thought and the methods of this study. The secondsection elaborates the cultural diplomacy theory by expounding its background,connotation, features, forms, and function. The third section mainly demonstrates theprocess and the content of the cultural diplomacy that China execute with ASEANafter Cold War, discuss the necessity that China carries out the cultural diplomacywith ASEAN. The forth section elaborates both the positive and negative factorswhich influences carrying out the cultural diplomacy respectively after Cold War.
