The idiomatic phrase is refined by the long history and is full of rich artistry and thought characteristics. In addition, the physical idiomatic phrase accounts for a big ratio in an idiomatic phrase. It is because I reflect the cognitive experience that1formed in the process when a person recognizes the world. However, in the understanding of the physical idiomatic phrase, it cannot be often understood only by a lexical meaning and grammatical knowledge. In addition, according to the traditional theory, both the meaning of the idiomatic phrase and the interpretation are often difficult. As for the cognitive linguistic results of research, the meaning of a word of many idiomatic phrases is derived based on the cognitive structure of the person, and it is studied that both the form and the meaning have systematic grounds.By the main subject, I make use of cognitive linguistic results of research and analyze the meaning expansion about a physical idiomatic phrase in the daytime from metaphor and a viewpoint of metonymy. I showed the definition of the idiomatic phrase while I showed a precedent study, a study method in Chapter1of the main subject, and standing on the precedence study in Chapter2and showed the theoretical frame in this study to compare the idiomatic phrase concerned to be concrete. In other words, I showed a cognitive linguistic frame using metaphor, metonymy and showed three types called the expansion by neither of expansion by the metaphor, expansion by metonymy, metaphor and metonymy and surveyed the perspective about mechanism to be concerned with the outbreak of the idiomatic phrase concerned. In Chapter3, I perform concrete analysis from a recognition viewpoint of metaphor and metonymy about Japanese, a "head" body idiomatic phrase including the "head""face""eyes""ear""mouth""nose""neck" in Chinese. At first arranged a meaning of each physical vocabulary of "the head" from a dictionary, and analyzed the meaning from a cognitive linguistic viewpoint; there is. metonymy classified the idiomatic phrase of each part as a metaphor from the expansion by both metaphor and metonymy again afterward and analyzed the expansion of the idiomatic phrase meaning from a viewpoint of the cognitive linguistics and considered it what kind of influence a cognitive process had on the meaning establishment of the whole idiomatic phrase. I arrive and speak a conclusion in Chapter4.This report thinks that it became clear that Japanese and Chinese cause the difference of the physical vocabulary idiomatic phrase by the differences such as cognitive processes through comparing the physical vocabulary idiomatic phrase of Chinese with the Japanese from a cognitive linguistic viewpoint. Fortunately, a study of this report feels useful for the understanding of the idiomatic phrase about "the head" of the Japanese learner.
