The reform of Chinese painting during the republic of China era is an important part in modern Chinese painting history, and also a revolutionary continuity of Chinese traditional culture. People pass different judgment on the change of the painting style during this period for a long time. This paper will look at this history in a positive perspective and comment objectively in order to see clearly and recognize this extraordinary painting history.With the evolution of Chinese history for thousands of years, Chinese painting develops and grows step by step. Today, the painting reform during the Republic of China era is one turning point, with the last one being the aesthetic concept and creative means in the Qing Dynasty. While comparing with the literati style in the Qing Dynasty, today’s aesthetic concept and creative means are more diversified. When in describing the reform of Chinese painting during the republic of china era, the author tries to explain how this important transformation and change formed during the republic of china era. The thesis is divided into four parts:the first part describes the beginning of reform of the Chinese painting, with the input of the foreign culture and as the main content; the second part describes the claim of the intellectuals; the third part analyzes the reform of the traditional Chinese painting during the republic of china era, and takes examples from Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou to explain the differences of artist’s dominant; and this is about the characteristics of the reform of Chinese painting during the republic of china era, mainly discussing the realizeise, popularization and color; and the fourth part makes a discussion of its reform value, mainly deals with the promotion of transformation and development of the modern Chinese painting, and also its fusion with the western painting.
