As a influential literary critic of the United States in the20th century,Edmund Wilson’scritical career began with a jounalist who possesses the social responsibility.Wilson prefered tobe called as a "Literary journalist",the characteristics of literary journalist always accompanyedwith his critical career,whenever wrote social commentary for the paper in the early days,orengaged in literary criticism in the future.The literary criticism of Wilson not only possessed theelegant writing and legible thinking,but also with the intense aesthetic values andimagation,which interpreted the responsibility of journalist that reflecting the changes of timeand servicing for public.In the critical career of Wilson, the dual vision of literary criticism andjournalist realized the particular concern for the public and reality.This paper stands from the identity as the literary journalist,connecting with Wilson’s "newscomplex",analyzing the trait of news property and the social responsibility of a journalist andhumanistic concern for the social life as a public intellectual which revealed in his criticismworks,to seek the uniqueness and imagation in Wilson’s literary criticism.
