Under the influence of western postmodernism, Banana Yoshimoto integrated Japanese culture and western postmodernism, which created one kind of inspirational novel for the young. Her novels not only describe the life and mental situation of marginal population, but also cure the young people whose spirit is under desperation and torment, which have a great influence on social society.This article mainly includes four sections. First is the introduction, in this part, it elaborates the academic background of the writer, evaluations for her works from domestic and overseas, the author, the writings, and the conditions of the distributions of the translations, the origin of the theme and the means to study her writings. Second, it mainly analyzes Japanese traditional spirit and the ways to write the books, which inherits and carries forward the traditional culture. Third, it principally analyzes spirit and writing techniques of western postmodernism worked on her, which formed her own writing style. And then, it consists of reasons of integrations of the two different writing styles, her writing characteristics through comparisons to other Japanese novelists, and the social significance of her novels. At last, it confirms her concerns on the cure for young people’s psychological problems and her lead to new life style of modern Japanese women, which have enormous enlightenment effects on youth novels by80th authors in Japan and China.This article not only discussed her novels in the realm of philosophy, but also analyzed the text in three fields from language, characters and themes, which reflected her humanistic thinking on social ethics, the life-death view, and cultivation of youths. The works of Banana Yoshimoto enjoyed a high reputation in the world, so researching her novels will be hopeful to provide some new thoughts and reference for the future development of our country’s literature.
