The Ba-sentence has always been a hot spot in the field of Chinese grammer teaching and also the key point and difficulty of teaching Chinese as a foreign language. Much work has been done these years in this field, but most of them pay much attention to the structure not the function of the Ba-sentence." There have been many attempts to combine the structure and the function, but there still is a long way to go."(Shao Jingmin, Luo Xiaoying) So the aim of this paper is to design a teaching method for Ba-sentence based on the Functional approach.The main theme of the paper is the application of Functional approach in the teaching of Ba-sentence.Based on the predecessor’s research on the Ba-sentence and the analysis of the language material from the Modern Chinese corpus, the analysis of the main Ba-sentence styles from the current teaching material, we divided the Ba-sentence into twelve different structures. Then according to the function of the twelve structures of the Ba-sentence,we divided them into eight functional items. After that we designed the teaching process step by step.At last, we did the teaching practice and the effect evaluation. the result of the evaluation reveals that the functional teaching method has more advantage than the traditional teaching method based on the structure.Through the above observation, the present paper puts forward some valuble suggestions on the teaching of Ba-sentence, as well as on the compilling of some text books in this field.
