With entry into the21st century, the booming growth of the Internet not only hasa great influence on people’s everyday lives but also flourishes the culture of theInternet. As is one of the most important elements in cyber culture, cyber language notonly prevails in our common lives but also has been regarded by numerous foreignjournalists and media as the most direct window to get to know about the currentChina. Therefore, as it represents the newest appeals on China’s current economy, ideas, culture and social development, it is required for translators to translate cyberlanguage punctually, accurately and veritably. It is of great significance to excel in thiswork so as to increase the international communications between countries and in thefolk. Many scholars have made attempts to research on the studies of cyber language, most of whom have attached great importance to the Chinese cyber imitation words. However, most of these researches are confined in the light of the traditionaltranslation theories. Translation views in the perspective of cognitive linguistics fromLakoff and Johnson can just make up for the disadvantages of the traditionaltranslation theories. In accordance with cognitive linguistics, translation is consideredas the cognitive subject on the basis of the real experiences, which will alterprojections of one language to the cognitive activities of another language. All factorsinvolved should be considered in the whole process of translating.Based on the large amount of new Chinese imitation words this thesis hascollected previously, it makes a deep analysis of its source and then classify newChinese cyber imitation words into two types, namely semantic imitation words andhomophonic imitation words. After the analysis, it comes up with the opinion thattranslators should follow a strategy of cognitive equivalence in translation by makingconcrete examples of new Chinese imitation words in details. Meanwhile, this thesisalso concludes that translators should lay more emphasis on the application of thegeneral rules of people’s cognition so as to fully and faithfully convey the hiddeninformation in the cyber imitation words, which will not only make readers easy tounderstand cyber imitation words but also the other cultures.
