Explication And Application Of Chinese Homosexuality Terms

From the perspective of linguistics this paper focuses on Chinese homosexualityterms. On one hand, it explains homosexuality terms; on the other hand, it investigates theirusage in Chinese.The paper includes three sections. The first section expounds the "language andsexuality" theory as well as literature review. The theory of "language and gender" mainlyfocuses on differences between the language of male and the language of female. Itsfindings could not explain gay people’s special language phenomenons, for example, somegays speak in an effeminate voice, and sometimes use female words, and some lesbiansselect male words. In this way, linguists proposed the theory "language and sexuality", inorder to resolve gay and lesbian language problems.The second chapter analyzes Chinese homosexuality terms, which includes ancienthomosexuality appellations, modern gay appellations, gay slang and subculture words,which relate to gays and lesbians, and analyzes the characteristics and roles of Chinesehomosexuality terms.The third section describes the investigation on the usage of Chinese homosexualityterms. A questionnaire survey was conducted using an anonymous questionnaire. Datafrom the questionnaire are showed in tables to forecast the tendency of Chinesehomosexuality words usage, and to further speculate its reasons and effects, etc.
