Moment in Peking is a full-length novel written in English by the famous writer Dr.Lin Yutang during his sojourn in Paris from August1938to August1939. It reveals thehistoric stories and social reality of China from the end of Qing dynasty to the outburst ofWorld War II, thus although written in English, this book intends to provide the westernreaders real China and the historic changes it has gone through and provide the true faceof China which is unfamiliar to the western world. With its tremendous success inwestern world and Dr. Lin Yut,angs receiving the honor of nominee of the Nobel Prize,Moment in Peking has been translated into several Chinese versions and unfolds Chinesepeople the histories and social traditions as well, raising great echoes among Chinesereaders and exerting profound influence to cultural transmission. The study of the culturecarired by the novel and the translating strategies related is one of the hottest researchtopics in Chinese translation field.This paper tires to explore the related cultural factors and the effect of culturaltransmitting of Moment in Peking from the following angles, first it probes for thedifference between translat’ors cultural background such as political intention leading tothe different consciousness colors of translation works, then it raises the translatingstrategies of specific cultural items and the English version of original work on the itemsand their cultural translation effect, finally the paper makes attempt on the influence oncultural spreading and education dimensions from other angles, such as the re?transmitting of culture by back translating and the cultural omission or mal-position’’caused by writers and translators cultural differences.
