Translation is a cross-culture activity involving many entities and relationships, including the relationships between author and translator, between readers and translator, between sponsor and translator, between the original culture and the target culture and so on. So it is necessary to apply a series of principles and norms to guide these relationships. Ethics means that a series of principles and standards guide the relationships among people. In translation, these norms and principles are called translation ethics, aiming at coordinating and limiting different relationships involved in translation. Translation ethics is also needed in news translation which involves relationships of different participants. So translators should set a correct translation ethics to choose an appropriate strategy to solve translation problems, so that the target news can be more readable. As a new approach, ethics makes a macro study of relationships of the people involved in the process of translation. It studies translation from a macro perspective, namely from the relationships of people, so as to conclude a series of principles and norms to guide translation process. Especially in the currently, there is a tendence of studying translation from the culture perspective, when translator comes across culture conflicts, he should set a right translation ethics to guide his own translation activities in order to protect his native culture. The thesis firstly introduces English news translation, including structures and characteristics of news and some problems the translator meets in translating news. Chapter two mainly discusses translation ethics. The thesis will illustrate it from the origin of translation ethics, the necessity of it, its development at home and abroad and the content of translation ethics. Chapter three mainly analyzes news translation from the perspective of translation ethics, mainly from Chesterman’s four models, researching the functions of these four models in news translation. And then in order to achieve these four functions, the author thinks translators should set an appropriate translation ethics that is to choose the most suitable strategy to translate in order to protect their own culture. Furthermore, the thesis concludes the process of thought-transit in news translation. Under the correct translation ethics, translators can not go to extremes. Finally, the paper proposes several practical strategies used in the process of English news translation, so that they can make this paper more meaningful in practice.
